Celebration of Ireland’s patron saint might frequently be characterised merely as a mass assault on communal sobriety, yet it also serves as moment to celebrate Irish culture in general throughout the world. Indeed it is frequently a day of renewal, as witnessed in Watt for example, where the narrator tells us that the sheets in Mr Knott’s house are ‘changed regularly on Saint Patrick’s Day.’

This year’s celebrations in San Livorno, Italy continues its annual celbration of Irish literature and adds a particular emphasis on Beckett by inviting the Italian author, scholar and Beckettian collection of Federico Platania as one of its notable guests.

San Patrizio Livorno Festival will run from March 15-17 in the Tuscan town of Livorno in northern Italy. More details here.
